Gabrielle works primarily in the areas of estate planning, probate and administration of estates, guardianship, and immigration guardianship and custody. Her approach to her clients’ needs is very holistic and positive. When appropriate, Gabrielle works together with her client’s financial planner to gain a complete view of the client’s assets and financial position and to develop a coordinated plan. In meeting with her clients, Gabrielle has an empathetic approach to ascertain the client’s goals and to put a complete plan in place so that the client feels comfortable that his or her desires are clearly set forth. Gabrielle also helps clients with estate planning where there is a family member with disabilities, including, where appropriate, guardianships and special needs trusts.
In addition, Gabrielle assists clients with probate and estate administration matters, including probating a Will in Surrogate’s Court and helping the executor of the estate distribute estate assets and carry out the deceased’s directions while complying with statutory requirements.
Gabrielle also works with clients who are seeking the appointment of a guardian or custodian in Family Court for a minor child or young adult who has been abused, abandoned or neglected by one or both parents as part of a Special Immigration Juvenile Status immigration proceeding. The guardianship or custody process can be intimidating for both the child and the proposed guardian, and Gabrielle develops trusting relationships with both. Since Gabrielle speaks Spanish and can speak with her Spanish-speaking clients in their native language, the relationship is one of trust and comfort from the start. Gabrielle assists her guardianship and custody clients through the court process, helps with necessary paperwork, and prepares the clients for the requirements of the court.
In assisting clients, Gabrielle draws on her experience both as a former corporate attorney and as an active member in her community.
